What Goes Wrong With Patio Sliding Screen Doors, and How We Fix It
Almost every service call on patio sliding screen doors comes down to the same short list. The rollers have flattened or seized, so the door drags. The track is packed with grit or has been bent by something heavy. The frame has racked out of square and now catches at one corner. Or the mesh has torn and the frame underneath is still perfectly good.
That last case is worth knowing about, because it is the cheapest outcome. If the frame is sound, we rescreen it and you keep the door. Patio sliding screen doors only need full replacement when the frame itself has lost its shape, and we will tell you which situation you are in before doing any work rather than after.
When a replacement is the right call, the door gets measured at the house and built to the opening. Sliders are unforgiving about this — the gap between the door and the jamb has to be consistent top to bottom or the latch will not sit. We have been building screens here since 1995 and work as a mobile screening company from a Costa Mesa workshop, so patio sliding screen doors are usually measured, built and hung on the same visit.
Track condition is the other half of the job. A new door on a damaged track will fail again within a year, so we check and clean the track, and replace rollers as part of the work rather than as an upsell afterwards. Most people never think about rollers until the door stops moving, which is fair, but they are the part that wears.
Sliders are one opening among several. For entry doors we fit retractable screen doors, for hinged openings swinging screen doors, and where protection matters security screen doors with steel frames. Openings wider than a standard slider are covered by our large format screens, and we handle window screen repair throughout the house.
Patio sliding screen doors go in across Orange County — Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, Fullerton, Santa Ana, Tustin and Mission Viejo among them. Several of the retractable systems we carry come from Phantom Screens, so parts stay available long after installation. Have a look at our gallery, read the reviews, or contact us for a free quote.
